Another little city break brought us to Ravenna, a cute but polished historical town not far from Bologna. Famous for its Byzantine mosaics and the home of Dante for 19 of his final years, Ravenna is a little gem. At the centre is the beautiful Basilica di San Vitale  with mosaics depicting the scene of Abraham about to sacrifice his son Isaac, reminding me of of the Middle East where I had seen stories told in a similar style.

The narrow cobbled streets made for the most wonderful setting for yet more coffee and gelato, this time in retro style.
